They aren't as cheap and are definitely not as popular as their wireless brethren, but hardwired security systems are the most reliable, most secure form home alarms.

If you don't keep up on technology, you might not realize that most of the systems you see advertised and promoted are wireless. Unless your home was built with an alarm pre-installed or pre-wired for a system, wireless is your default choice.

Wireless systems have become the predominant technology in the industry. They are cheaper, easier to install and because of their dynamic design potential, can fit almost any home.

So, why don't you want one?

Well, you might if that's what fits best for your home.

However, wireless home security systems have more potential for errors and glitches. A central server controls wireless them and all the components such as sensors and triggers communicate with it via digital transmission.

This means errors in the transceivers of any part of the system can cause a failure. It also makes a wireless system more vulnerable to power outages as well as software and system glitches.

Hardwired systems use specialized batteries that last 20 years on average. They also come with back-up batteries. As a result, hardwired security systems can remain independent of local power systems and cannot be easily knocked out even by an earthquake or other natural disaster.

Better yet, hardwired systems are difficult to disable. There is no readily accessible central server to disconnect. Components are directly tied together and are well protected by walls and other structures.

So, why doesn't everyone have a hardwired security system?

First, hardwired systems have to be installed into the walls of your home. Many newer homes are built "security system wired" which means they have all the basic components and wiring connections installed by the builder. This makes it extremely easy for your or your chosen home alarm company to complete an installation.

If you don't have pre-wiring, it means serious contractor work. In addition, wired system components are more expensive. Wireless security systems have become so affordable that many security system companies like Protect America give them away free with a three-year service contract. However, hardwired components cost more.

If you want the best for you and your family, then the investment is worthwhile. Contact any major security system company about hardwiring your home.
